Hometown Series
Artist Statement
My series of paintings explores the essence of hometown imagery through the lens of memory, experience, and personal reflection. Drawing inspiration from Gaston Bachelard’s exploration of intimate spaces in “The Poetics of Space,” I delve into the hidden layers of meaning embedded within familiar landscapes and architectural forms. Through the mediums of oil painting and drawing, I seek to capture the subtle nuances of everyday life in my hometown, intertwining elements of nostalgia, spirituality, and identity.
Through these visual investigations, I aim to evoke a sense of collective memory and shared identity, while also celebrating the unique individual perspectives that shape our understanding of home. By urging viewers to look beyond the surface of familiar forms, my artwork encourages deeper engagement with the psychological essences and hidden meanings embedded within the landscapes of hometown imagery.
Ultimately, my series of paintings serves as a testament to the transformative power of art in illuminating the complexities of human experience and the enduring resonance of place. Each artwork becomes a metaphor for the ongoing journey of self-discovery and re-evaluation, inviting viewers to contemplate life’s aspirations and the ever-shifting landscapes of identity within the context of their own hometown memories.
